UFO and the Aer-O-Volve
On the left above is a very special UFO picture of UFO Sightings events that caused a considerable amount of interest and comments for some weeks from both the public and the media.
The real UFO pictures shown here are taken from one of our Semi-Sail aerodynamic balloons at dusk of our personal Flying Saucer over a sleepy Dorset village in England. This particular UFO had been seen by cars passing along the main road quite close to the village when we were carrying out experiments. The cars had formed a long queue alongside the road and those who had them got out binoculars (everyone carries them in their vehicles, just in case!) to see the UFO. At that time our ‘Personal Flying Saucer’ had no lights inside etc, but in daylight was visible for some distance . Newspapers and the media got ‘wind’ of the UFO sightings and started as usual to hype the whole event, asking ‘experts’ for their opinion. These experts said that once one had been seen, other sightings were bound to happen, so we obliged by putting it up at night as well, but with lights, so one UFO Sighting became many UFO Sightings. The media then descended and increased both the viewers and expert opinions. This led to the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) and the Ministry of Defense having to deny
- That there was any unusual electrical activity over the antennae complex (which was at least 5 miles from where we were operating) transmitting BBC’s overseas programmes where a number of UFO Sightings had been seen and
- that the latter had any new experimental craft undergoing flying trials over that area
We eventually let a TV station make a live UFO video, which they decided to do from a local Pub! You can see real UFO pictures taken during the couple of weeks that this story developed in the following pages! Moto: Never believe all you read

Aer-O-Volve
This is a different beast to the UFO, which was just for fun. The Aer-O-Volve was designed to make use of the Magnus Effect to obtain stable flight, but instead of using a single rotating flying body, like others had done before, we went down the route of using a contra-rotating twin body, filled with helium, because we believed that by ro tating them at different speeds we would still get forward motion and retain stability.
In this we were correct, but it depended on how the two bodies were powered and in a second version we increased lift by adding lifting and directionally controllable elevators and rudders by means of two small wings on each body, instead of just rotating the envelopes.
In the photo to the right the Aer-O-Volve is lying on its side, whilst remote control of elevators are being tested prior to flight tests.
We believe our Aer-O-Volve concept holds a lot of promise as a heavy lift vehicle for logging etc, but there is much development work still to be done. It is particularly suitable for transport to and from a target site because the envelopes can be deflated, packed into a small container and everything else could be dismantled before shipment..
